Berkeley is the home of the University of California's flagship campus. Go Bears!!
The city of Berkeley is characterized by a wide diversity of neighborhoods and cultures.
South Side is the college student area south of the campus and the location of famous (or infamous) Telegraph Avenue. The North Side, adjacent to the UC campus to the north is more upscale and home to many faculty members.
Standing graciously in the hills are the Claremont and Elmwood districts. You will not want to miss the views from the Claremont Hotel at sunset.
West Berkeley runs to the Bay where you can stroll through the Marina and watch the sailboarders, boaters, and kite surfers. Berkeley's enormous annual kite festival and its July 4th fireworks both take place in West Berkeley.
Each neighborhood has it own style of architecture. If you are a fan of Julie Morgan, the famous architect of the Hearst Castle in San Simeon down the coast, her wonderful Berkeley homes and public buildings show why Morgan was so popular.
